SCDBA MINUTES: SPRING MEETING 2006

 

The spring meeting of the South Central District Bandmasters Association was held May 8, 2006 at Vance High School. Chairman Blair Smith called the meeting to order at 6:56 pm.

 

The minutes of the January 28, 2006 Winter Business Meeting discussed and approved.

 

Richard Holmes gave the TreasurerÕs Report and cited that although our cash reserves are good we are limited in our general fund amount due to previous obligations: report was approved.

 

Blair also thanked The Music Center and Jason Gilchrest for providing dinner, thanks to Rob Carrington our host at Vance.

 

Bill Malambri announced the Winthrop University Invitational would be held November 17-18, 2006.

 

Larry Marks from UNC-C announced the coming completion of the facilities at Charlotte. Some changes in faculty next year are anticipated.

OLD BUSINESS

 

Election of Officers:

                                    1. High School Representatives (2) at large

                                    2. Middle School Representatives (2) at large

 

Largest vote totals will serve 2-year term, second winner, 1 year.

 

Fall Meeting: September 11, 2006: to be hosted by Dr. Lumpkin and Dr, Marks @ UNC-Charlotte.

Meal sponsor not yet confirmed.

All-District Auditions: January 6, 2007: to be held @Olympic HS, Mark and Anne Reese, Jonathan Rudd,

hosts.

 

All District Clinic: January 26-27, 2007: Ken & Felicia Davis / Josh Stevenson @ Mooresville HS.

Clinicians to be:

á       Leslie Clowes, MS

á       Sean OÕLoughlin, 9-10

á      James Curnow (w/commission) 11-12

 

Discussion on Friday evening meal, barbeque vs. something else. Discussion tabled until fall meeting.

 

Honors Band Auditions: David Deese, East Davidson HS/Brown MS March 3, 2007.                        

 

Middle School Contest: Jim Hill

 

                                   

High School Contest: James Phillips, @ Shelby High School March 27-30, 2007.

                                   

Honors Band Clinic: Following dates reported:

REPORTS

 

NCBA Update Blair Smith reported that a Ògripe committeeÓ is looking at the solos and correct problems where

they exist regarding Honors Band. Dates for next year announced.
