GENERAL INFORMATION

 

 

1.  Registration is in the lobby of the Batte Fine Arts Center at Wingate University:

 

At registration you must present the following items:

          a.  Current and Valid MENC Membership Card

          b.  3 Scores for each piece (with measures numbered)

c.  Repertoire List for the last three years               (including this year)

          d.  Instrumentation List (3 copies)

e.  Seating Chart (chairs and stands marked on each row)

          f.  Announcement Sheet

 

NOTE:  STUDENTS MUST REMAIN ON THE BUSES UNTIL

REGISTRATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

 

2.  Prepare a warm-up march and two numbers from the NC MPA    List.  One should be from your grade of entry and the other from the grade you enter or one grade higher. 

 

3.  Performances will take in the auditorium of The Batte Fine Arts Center.  We will use the Choral room for your warm-up and the Band room for your sight-reading room.  The schedule will begin on time in the morning and after lunch.  Please be ready for any shift, early or late, thereafter.  The guides will call for you in the warm-up room. 

 

4.  Please cooperate with the student guides; they are following our instructions.  Problems should be directed to the contest chairman, not student helpers.

 

5.  The stage is flat (no risers).  There are no shells on this stage, so set up your band accordingly.  We will make every effort to help you with your seating chart, but you may want to have some of your most trustworthy students assist you in final adjustments.

 

6.  If you need to call for any reason on the day of the contest, call (704) 219-6663.  This is my cell phone number.  I will get back to you as soon as possible.

 

7.  Leave cases and extraneous materials on the buses.  We will have no place for them in the warm-up room or the auditorium.

 

8.  Please advise your students about respect for property.  Caution them to leave everything the way they find it.

 

9.  We will furnish a directors podium, 4 timpani, concert bass drum, percussion table, chimes, gong, xylophone, and orchestra bells.  YOUR PERCUSSION SECTION SHOULD BRING SNARE DRUMS, STICKS, MALLETS, AND ALL TRAPS.

 

10.  A CD recording of your band will be made and available for       $15.00.  A single copy will be made.  This will assure no      copyright violation.  Make checks payable to:  Whirlie        Productions.  Payment must be made in advance.

 

11.  Food: We have numerous fast food restaurants in Monroe,   

     including most anything youÕre looking for on Highway 74. 

     I recommend calling ahead to let the restaurant know youÕre

     coming.  I can help with questions you have ahead of time.
